School Workshops
Mosaic workshops in schools in 2009 included a project with GCSE Art pupils at Pendragon School in Downham, south-east London. Pupils made mosaic self portraits using a range of different materials including ceramic and glass tiles, mirror, buttons etc. The mosaics were based on self portrait collages. Pupils made very indivdual responses over the course of the three lessons and the resulting mosaics were then grouted.
Another school workshop in 2009 was at South Rise Primary School in Plumstead during the school's arts week. The theme was Renoir's painting of umbrellas and the mosaic was entered into the National Gallery's 'Take One Picture' scheme.
The one day mosaic project included three sessions with Year 4 pupils. Each pupil made either a mosaic umbrella or figure. The mosaics were then grouted and mounted for display.
